lore-skool — Privacy Policy

The short version

lore-skool helps a parent understand their child's story-world. We built it so your family's information stays with your family. Your child's name and answers live on your device — not on our servers. When we generate the read — the picture lore-skool hands back — we send only the substance of the answers, with your child's name removed first. We don't sell your data. We never will.

1. What is processed

A child's first name, and the answers you and your child enter about their media and story world — shows, characters, feelings, short notes. You enter this yourselves, on your own device.

2. Where it lives

On your device — in your browser, and in the record file you save and keep. We do not store your child's name or answers on our servers. There are no accounts and no server-side profiles.

3. What leaves your device, and how

To create the read, the substance of the answers is sent to our AI processor (Anthropic). Before anything is sent, your child's name is replaced with a neutral token — the name itself never leaves your device. What travels is content, not identity. Our server acts only as a relay: it passes each request through and returns the result. We keep no behavioural log, no profile, and the generated read is not retained on our servers.

4. Payments

Payments are handled by Paddle, acting as Merchant of Record. Paddle processes your payment details under its own privacy terms; we never see your card details. Paddle's privacy policy: paddle.com/legal/privacy.

5a. The founding list (a temporary section)

Before launch, our website carries one invitation: a button that opens your own email app, so you can ask us to tell you — once — when Founding Families opens. Here is that list's entire life story. We collect the email address and nothing else. It is never connected to the app, to any record, to any access code, or to any purchase — the list doesn't know who buys and Paddle doesn't know who's on the list. It lives in our EU-hosted mailbox (Zoho), it is used for exactly one notification, and when lore-skool launches, the list is deleted — including if you never bought anything, especially then. You can ask off it anytime at grownups@lore-skool.com. When the list burns, this section goes with it.

6. Legal bases

Where we process anything at all, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (delivering the read you've asked for), and legitimate interests in running, securing, and improving the service (such as transient technical logs needed to keep the service working and prevent abuse). We do not use your family's content for advertising or profiling, and we do not train AI models on it.

7. Children

lore-skool is operated by a parent or guardian, who enters and controls the information and decides what their child sees and does. We minimise children's data by design: the name is tokenised before any transmission, records are device-held, and nothing persists on our servers. The child's participation happens with their parent, on the parent's device.

8. Your rights (GDPR)

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Because your family's data lives on your device, you exercise most of these directly — your record is yours to view, export, or delete, instantly and completely. For anything else, contact grownups@lore-skool.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

9. Retention

We hold nothing persistent to retain. Your device-held record exists exactly as long as you keep it. Transient technical logs needed to operate and secure the service are kept only briefly and contain no answer content.

10. What we don't do

We don't sell your data. We don't use it for advertising. We don't build a profile of your child — for anyone. We don't share your family's information with streaming platforms, data brokers, or anyone else with something to sell. This is not a promise bolted on afterwards; it's how the product is built.

Counting worlds, not children — a promise about the future. Today, we keep no counts of anything your family enters. One day, we may want to learn — in anonymous aggregate, across all lore-skool families — which shows and characters come up most, so the questions can get better and so we can share general discoveries back with the community (think: "the most-loved character among 8-year-olds this year"). If we ever do this, four rules are permanent and not up for revision:

  1. Counts are anonymous totals only — never connected to your family, your child, or your device, and never drawn from your notes or free text, only from structured answers like show titles, characters, and age ranges.
  2. Nothing is ever sold or shared with advertisers, platforms, or data brokers. Whatever we learn goes back to the lore-skool community, or nowhere.
  3. Nothing is published from groups smaller than 100 families — and usually the groups will be far larger.
  4. This policy changes first, visibly, before a single count happens — a new dated version, with a plain explanation of exactly what's counted, will appear here in advance. Never after, never quietly.

And so you can hold us to it: if there is no section below this one describing our counting in detail, we haven't started.

If lore-skool ever changes hands. Someone could buy Loader Labs B.V. tomorrow and they would get the code and the brand — not your family's records, because those were never here. They live on your device, and they are yours (our terms say so in writing). A change in ownership or control moves nothing, because there is nothing of yours to move. And the rule above applies to any new owner exactly as it applies to us: how the service handles data changes here, visibly and in advance, before it changes in behaviour — under new management or old.

Don't take our word for it. The traffic lore-skool sends is yours to inspect: open your browser's own developer tools and watch what leaves your device. We built it so that inspection is boring — the substance of the answers, a neutral token where the name should be, and nothing else. The proof was never meant to live in this document; it lives in the network tab.

11. On your device (cookies and local storage)

lore-skool stores things on your device — but notice whose they are. Conventional cookies are a company's data about you, parked on your machine, reporting back. What lore-skool stores is your family's data, on your family's device, reporting to no one: your record (the product itself), your settings and access code, and the app's own files so it loads fast and works offline. All of it exists to deliver the service you asked for; none of it identifies you to us, tracks you across the web, or phones home. We set no advertising or analytics cookies — first-party or third-party.

That's why there's no cookie banner here: the law requires consent for non-essential storage, and we have none. The missing banner isn't an oversight — it's the claim, kept.

One exception, named honestly: when you open the payment checkout, Paddle (our Merchant of Record) sets strictly necessary cookies of its own — fraud prevention and processing of the transaction you've just requested — governed by Paddle's privacy policy.

12. International transfers

Our sub-processors may process data outside the EEA (for example, Anthropic in the United States). Where they do, transfers are safeguarded under recognised mechanisms such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses, per each sub-processor's terms. Remember: what travels is de-identified answer content, never your child's name.
